Seascapes Hawai'i Small Ship Cruise

hawaii island hopping cruise

If you are departing from Vancouver, there is a high chance that you may also see some of the popular Alaska cruise ports. These include Ketchikan, Skagway, Icy Strait Point, and the state’s capital Juneau. The sea conditions during this time frame around completely unpredictable.

North America Travel Guide

And it’s a great starting point if you want to island-hop to Lana’i or Moloka’i. You can read a brief overview of each island below, as well as any specific info related to island hopping in Hawaii. On Maui, you can step back in time with a visit to the artsy Upcountry town of Makawao in what's known as paniolo (cowboy) country. That doesn't mean, however, that you can just head to a resort, select a lounger and act like you're a guest.

Sail Through The Hawaiian Islands

Swimming pools, hot tubs, miniature golf, Discovery at Sea programs, movies, dancing, and shows ensure plenty to do during the four days at sea on the way to Hawaii. Shipboard programs for youths, teens, and families provide something for everyone. On the Big Island, guests can zipline through the rainforest or ride to the top of Mauna Kea, the world's tallest mountain. Next is Oahu, where activities include a tour of Pearl Harbor, snorkeling in Hanauma Bay, and a tour of the only royal palace in the United States. After four days at sea, passengers get a day to explore Ensenada, Mexico, on the Baja California peninsula, before the Crown Princess sails back to San Francisco.

Booking Tips for Hawaii Inter-Island Flights

Hawaiian cruises from mid-December through March can be pricier and more crowded and should be avoided if possible. Kauaʻi is known as the “Garden Isle” for its lush greenery and stunning landscapes. Must-visit attractions on Kauaʻi include the dramatic Waimea Canyon, often referred to as the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific,” and the breathtaking Na Pali Coast. Kauaʻi also boasts some of Hawaii’s best beaches, including the picturesque Poipu Beach and the idyllic Hanalei Bay.

Your home throughout this journey is a luxurious 36-guest boutique yacht, offering an intimate and comfortable experience. Embark on a captivating journey, cruising through Molokai, Lana‘i, Maui, and Hawai‘i, the Big Island. Begin your adventure in Molokai’s ancient Halawa Valley, engaging with a local Kahuna (expert) for an authentic insight.

Are there ferries between the Hawaiian Islands?

Gear up for a day of play on the “Private Island.” Thousand foot sea cliffs line the shore and ancient volcanic plugs sit both above and below the water’s surface as host to a wide diversity of marine life. Snorkel, paddle board, kayak, explore by skiff, or stretch your legs on hike-whichever activities suit your fancy. If you’re open to a Hawaii island hopping cruise, Norwegian Cruise Line has an impressive one. In 7 days, you’ll travel from Oahu to Kauai, Big Island to Maui, and then back to Oahu.

You’ll hear legends and lore, then take in a cultural lesson in taro patches and poi making, or hike to a towering waterfall in Halawa’s cathedral valley-one of the island’s most historic places. At the Molokai Museum, discover the history of this ancient homeland as you enjoy an evening paina (feast), complete with a home-style Hawaiian jam session. While flights between islands are pleasantly affordable, the cost to island hop in Hawaii quickly adds up! If you want to see Lana’i or Moloka’i, your best bet is to plan a half or full day on 1 or both islands, with Maui as your launch point. And I need to mention that snorkeling tours like this one are also the only way to visit the island of Ni’ihau.

You’ll be transporting luggage, checking into flights, renting, and returning cars, and more. Once you've booked your Hawaii cruise, do some research and decide what you want to see — and what the best way is to do that. Your strategy can include a combination of shore excursions booked via the ship or arranged independently and exploration in a rental car. Cruising the Hawaiian Islands offers U.S. travelers an immersive South Pacific escape with all the comforts of home.

Popular Ports for Hawaiian Cruises

Two of Koningsdam's most popular venues are its live entertainment area with three venues — B.B. Pride of America sails round-trip from Honolulu every Saturday year-round. As a U.S.-flagged ship, it's the only large vessel permitted to sail this way. Not only do you skip the long Pacific crossing that most cruise ships do to reach Hawaii, but passports are not required for U.S. citizens, and you can tack on pre- or post-cruise stays on Oahu.

Alternatively, check out La Plage de Maui, the only white sand beach on Tahiti Nui ideal for snorkeling and swimming activities. The garden island of Kauai is a spectacular paradise filled with towering mountains, fertile valleys, and pristine natural beaches. Kealakekua Bay is a perfect spot to explore Kailua Kona’s breathtaking coastline. Here, you can find a remarkable coral reef which is known as one of the best snorkeling spots in all of Hawaii. Later, head over to the Pu’uhonoa o Honaunau National Historical Park where you will step back in time to understand Hawaii’s rich history.

Passengers can catch dusk or dawn from atop Maui's massive 10,023-foot dormant volcano with sunrise and sunset excursions to the Haleakala Crater. And with the ship in port all night on Kauai, guests who want to enjoy traditional Hawaiian cuisine, music and hula performances can book the Luau Kalamaku for a fun evening out. The most significant benefit to a Hawaii cruise vs. flight is that you can island hop four islands in one roundtrip Hawaii cruise from San Diego, California or Vancouver. You’ll cruise to Oahu, the Big Island, Maui and Kauai and experience the notable differences between islands. From Kona, join a snorkel or submarine tour to admire the spectacular underwater world. Meet local producers and try island-made coffee and chocolate, or explore the lush interior of the Big Island in a 4x4, stopping to cool off under tumbling waterfalls.

We wanted to see multiple islands, but did not know which ones to pick. This cruise was perfect, since they took us to 4 different islands and arranged lots of great activities. It was especially great because everything (including the alcohol) was included in one price. One of the most adventurous and memorable ways to island hop in Hawaii is by private boat or chartered yacht. This allows you the flexibility to create your own itinerary, visit secluded beaches and coves, and take the ocean route less traveled. Whether you select a 7-day cruise to hit the highlights or really go big with a 2 week sailing – island hopping Hawaii by cruise ship lets you see the beauty of the Aloha State all while unpacking just once.

Admire the dramatic lava landscapes of the Volcanoes National Park shaped by the still-active Kilauea and Mauna Loa volcanoes. In Honolulu, make time to visit Pearl Harbor, or stroll along the iconic Waikiki Beach. Each itinerary features one to two more “formal” nights that we call Evening Chic.

How To Pick The Best Time of Year to Cruise to Alaska

best time for cruise in alaska

Waiting to see if the price drops almost always results in paying more for your flight, so it’s important to get your flights booked to avoid wasting money. In Sitka, for instance, you can enjoy a leisurely walk through the Sitka National Historic Park, which comes at no extra cost and is within walking distance from the town center. Likewise, you could take a shuttle bus to Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau for $45 roundtrip, which is much cheaper than excursions booked through the cruise line.

When is the Best Time to Cruise Alaska to see Whales?

The warmer the weather, the better your chance to view a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence called “calving.” This is when a large chunk of the glacier separates in a giant icy landslide. Just expect cooler weather, fewer wildlife viewing opportunities, and less active ports with some shops that are still shuttered. Arguably, the biggest draw is the marine animals, with opportunities to see pods of humpback whales, gray whales, orcas, sea lions, sea otters, and more.

September Alaska Cruises

If you made it to the end of this article, chances are you’re already following our final tip on this list, and that is to read as many tips as you can about Alaska cruises before you set sail. While it could be tempting to sleep in, we advise starting your port day earlier rather than later. Instead of getting upset over a cold, rainy day in port, maintain a positive attitude. Find a cozy saloon to enjoy a warm Irish coffee, or bundle up in your rain gear and make the most of the day. Should your cruise encounter rough seas, an itinerary change, or another unforeseen circumstance, there’s a chance a showtime could get canceled or rescheduled.

Don’t forget to pack short sleeve shirts and sunscreen

Locals typically call the months of April and May “break-up” because the snow and ice begin to break apart and melt after the long winter. In April, mountains will still be snowy, and high temperatures will max out in the upper 40s for most cruise ports. Many cruise lines also have limited early cruise ships departing for Alaska in April. Norwegian Cruise Lines has the first departures of the season in early April from Seattle. July and August are the most active cruise months, followed by June, according to scheduled cruises on major travel booking websites. Luckily, when it comes to Alaska cruises, there is truly something for everyone.

The Best Time to Cruise Alaska 2024: A Month-by-Month Guide.

The extended daylight allows for more time to explore and take part in various activities. It’s an excellent month for those looking to maximize their adventure time. It’s also a great time to explore Alaska by land and sea and hit Denali National Park.

Imagine being able to enjoy Alaska’s incredible natural beauty during days of near-continuous sunlight. With so much daylight, you can enjoy all the best Alaska shore excursions, from biking alongside the Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau to hiking in the Tongass National Forest. For these peak season Alaska cruise routes, it’s advisable to book early so you get the best stateroom. Booking a veranda stateroom ensures that you’ll have your own private space to see glaciers during your cruise. Schools are still in session in May and September, so fewer families are traveling.

If a cruise with fewer crowds is important to you, it might be a good idea to avoid Alaska cruises in June, July, and August. Not only will there likely be more guests onboard during the summer, but in the ports you are visiting as well. If you are looking for a more quiet experience onboard and on shore, consider cruising to Alaska in May or September. While gray whales are active in Alaskan waters during the early spring, most species, including belugas, orcas, humpback whales, and blue whales, peak between May and September.

When is the best time to cruise to Alaska for maximum daylight?

Temperature is relative, so don’t be shocked if you see an Alaskan sporting shorts and a tank top in June. The 60s can feel downright tropical after winter temperatures in the 20s and 30s. A hat, gloves, and a winter coat would be a good idea to pack for an Alaskan cruise, especially if you depart in April, May, or September.

Fortunately, there are plenty of opportunities to spot these majestic creatures throughout the cruising season. When it comes to cruising Alaska, whale watching is at the top of many people’s wish lists. Stephanie Yrungaray grew up in gorgeous Eagle River, Alaska and now calls Utah her beUtahful home. She enjoys traveling and exploring with her husband and five kids any way she can, from cruising to RV camping and everything in-between!

September marks the end of the peak Alaska cruise season and offers the first opportunities to see the Northern Lights. The weather starts to cool, and the landscapes begin their transition into fall, offering a different kind of beauty. The cruising window in Alaska is notably brief, usually extending from May to September. While a few cruise lines venture out in April and October, these sailings are more the exception than the rule. The high season, characterized by the warmest weather and longest days, typically occurs from late June to August.

If you’re lucky, you might catch a glimpse of a bear, eagle, moose, fox, whale, or otter as your ship sails through Alaska’s inside passage. If you have your heart set on seeing these magnificent creatures, you can increase your odds by booking a small boat tour at one of the ports of call. During the month of February, whales begin their migration from the warm waters of Mexico to Alaska. After a long migration along the pacific coast, these magnificent creatures can be first spotted in April – albeit in small numbers. Every season in Alaska has its own charms, and depending on what you’re looking to see and do, some months might be better than others.

If you choose to cruise Alaska during this time, bring water-resistant clothing and plenty of warm layers. While it may seem counterintuitive that a popular time to travel would mean that cruise fares are lower, the reason is that there are more ships operating at this time. With more options to choose from, you can typically find a good deal if you are booking for the period that stretches between May and June. If you’re an adventure enthusiast seeking an active cruise experience, the Glacier Bay National Park Adventure Cruise and the Alaska Fjords and Glaciers Cruise, are ideal choices. These cruises allow you to explore Glacier Bay National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its glaciers, wildlife, and unspoiled wilderness.

Aim for the week right after school ends or the week before school begins if you’d like to get there just ahead of the most crowded part of peak season. A cruise to Alaska is an unforgettable summer family vacation experience your kids will cherish forever. If you have a flexible travel schedule and don’t have a specific stateroom in mind, consider visiting Alaska during shoulder season.

Mahogany Bay Cruise Port Guide: A Tropical Gateway to Roatan Cruise Travel Advisor

I would also love to check out the Mahogany Bay cruise port sometime (I guess we’ll have to do another Princess cruise for that). This interesting and exciting tour option is a unique way to explore the underwater creatures and plant life of the island. These tours will take you out into the Caribbean Sea and along the coast of the island to see the creatures that live there, and the coral reefs along the bottom of the ocean.

Snorkel Right-off Tabyana Beach

You will also have access to a variety of activities such as kayaking, paddle boarding and swimming in clear turquoise waters. Moreover, you can observe dolphins and other aquatic creatures from above or below the surface. If you want to make sure you have some shade on your beach day you can rent a clam shell for $26 for the entire day. Roatan is not only a natural paradise, but also a cultural melting pot, with a variety of ethnic groups and languages. The island has a rich and diverse history and heritage, influenced by the indigenous, Spanish, British, African, and Caribbean cultures. Along West Bay beach, there are several hotels and resorts, including the popular Infinity Bay Resort (pictured below).

Roatan Beaches and Resorts

Once you are done you can store the kayaks and spend the rest of the day at the private beach. What do you enjoy about this private escape exclusively for cruise passengers? Drop us an anchor below to share your experiences cruising to Mahogany Bay with Carnival. When you sail with Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), your ship will also dock at the Coxen Hole port. If planning on just bumming around the beach without indulging in any excursion, you can visit any of the resort on this beach and buy drinks and food to access the beach all day for free.

Roatan is Honduras' main cruise ship, scuba diving and eco-tourism travel destination. The island's economy is heavily based on tourism, followed by commercial fishing. The world’s second-longest reef system, the Mesoamerican Reef, lies just off the coast of West Bay Beach. This beach is minutes from the cruise ship docks and has some of the best snorkeling and diving in Roatán. Mahogany Bay is owned by Carnival Corporation, the parent company of Carnival Cruise Line. The company operates Mahogany Bay as a private destination for its cruise ships.

The West End of the island where the cruise ships dock is truly beautiful, so there are many things to see and do. Whether you’re seeking adventure, relaxation, cultural immersion, or nature exploration, Roatan has something to offer every traveler. From the moment your cruise ship docks at Mahogany Bay or the Port of Roatan, you’ll be greeted with a world of possibilities. Located in Dixon Cove, the 20 acre Mahogany Bay Cruise Ship Port can accommodate two cruise ships.

With beginning lessons that teach you the basics of how to put on and use your scuba gear, you will have all the skills you need to take to the water. The shallow water is great for picture taking and underwater exploration because you will have a perfect look at the sea life and coral in the water. If you bring along an underwater camera, the waters allow for crystal clear photos of the life that goes on under the waves. This private beach is a good choice for families because of the shallow water that allows you to go far out in the ocean without being in too deep. Parents can allow their children to splash around in the water as much as they want while they enjoy a drink of their choice and work on their tans.

Where is located the Port of Roatan Cruise Terminal

On your cruise to Roatan, you’ll be able to book a zip line excursion at the Mahogany Bay Cruise Center. The cruise center is within walking distance of the port and beach, so it’s easy to get there from your cruise ship. The island is part of the Western Caribbean Cruise itineraries and is one of the most popular destination ports for Caribbean cruises.

If there are no Hilton properties available, we use TripAdvisor to read reviews and book the hotel. We find we can get the best price that way.Click here to search for a hotel. There were several other animals, including spider monkeys and the coatimundi, which looks kinda like a raccoon. We even saw a paca, which is a large rodent, rummaging through the jungle floor, not part of the exhibits. If you are not a fan of the tight space, then you can take a look from the top deck. The official language of the island is Spanish, but with many people speaking English in the tourist areas, you will not need much help finding your way around.

In addition to cocktails and other beverages, the menu includes food items such as quesadillas, nachos, wings, grilled chicken, ceviche, and more. While many of the free loungers on the beach are in the shade, there’s no guarantee you’ll be able to snag a shaded one as they fill up quickly. To ensure that you’ll have plenty of shade during your beach day, you can rent a clamshell for around $30. While in Roatan, you can’t miss the chance to visit the Roatan Chocolate Factory. Known for its tasty chocolate made from locally sourced ingredients, it offers a delightful glimpse into the world of chocolate-making. A popular spot for seafood in Roatan is West Bay Beach, where several seafood restaurants are available.

When your cruises stop at Mahogany Bay, you’re in luck as a beautiful beach is just a short walk or a fun ride away. The Magical Flying Beach Chair takes you from the cruise port to Mahogany Beach in style. The all-day pass costs $14 for adults and $8 for children aged 4-12. Of course, you can also choose to walk to Mahogany Beach, which is just a 10-minute walk from the terminal. You can visit the place on your own, all you have to do is exit the port, get a taxi and instruct them to take you to little French Key. The taxi will drop you at the harbor where you will take a 4-5 minutes boat ride to the island.

Choose a glass-bottom boat ride if you want to witness the gorgeous marine life in Roatán without the hassle of sand and sunburns. The best time to see sea turtles on land is during their nesting period from July to August, when they come ashore to nest on West Bay Beach and Paya Bay Beach. If you are in Roatán during the non-nesting months, you can also observe these beautiful sea creatures gliding in the crystal-clear waters. Look for the VIP pass, which includes drink vouchers, a lunch plate, a massage, horseback riding, and access to a less-crowded beach. You can book a private tour, which is a little more expensive but allows you to move through the animal sanctuary (and have the experiences!) more quickly.

Horseback riding is a relaxing way to escape the crowds and see the diversity of this beautiful island. If you are a chocolate lover, this is a “must” for treats and souvenir shopping in Roatán. If you want to snorkel or scuba, water taxis from West Bay Beach will take you closer to the reef. However, paying a nearby resort for their day-use fee gives you access to chairs and a break from the vendors trying to sell their goods and services. Be sure to stop at “Yaba Ding Ding” for local handmade arts and crafts, including Garifuna and Lenca pottery artwork. If you love photography, you’ll marvel at the underwater photos by Roatán local Shawn Jackson in his gallery here.

I’m conflicted when I think about what Celebrity has done to specialty dining in the past 2 years. Mostly, it revolves around price / value when it comes to each of the upcharge dining venues. I recognize inflation is a real thing in the world, but the prices being charged now are almost eyewatering for what you get from both experience and food quality.

Each pool is flanked by hot tubs which were kept right at about 99 degrees (f). The Cellar Masters wine bar which is just outside of the Martini bar is a great low-key relaxation spot to avoid the madness of the Martini Bar. Unfortunately, the availability of wine is limited and probably shouldn’t be marketed as a “wine bar”.

AquaClass® guests enjoy a spacious private veranda, eXhale bedding, premium bathroom amenities, a massaging showerhead and complimentary fitness classes. Plus, unlimited access to the Persian Garden, complimentary dining at Blu, and personal spa concierge. Celebrity attracts upper middleclass passengers, many of whom are experienced, savvy travelers who have sailed on the ship several times. Passenger demographics depend on the season and itinerary, with summer and seasonal holidays drawing more families with children than other times of the year.

All cabins were modernized and upgraded with RFID (radio-frequency identification) door locks. The technology allows passengers access their cabins by simply tapping their SeaPass card against the door lock to unlock it. Americans, Canadians and Europeans usually make up the largest passenger groups, though the mix can significantly change with the itinerary. When the ship is in Europe, the passenger mix is international, with a roughly even blend of North American and European cruisers, mostly hailing from England, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy and Spain.

As “family cabins” the ship offers 121 connecting cabins plus 12 “FV-Family Veranda” suites (capacity up to 5). Some staterooms additionally have a sofa bed or/and upper (Pullman beds) for 3rd/4th person. The list of included bathroom amenities includes bar soap, shampoo, lotion, conditioner, hair dryer (wall-mounted). For those looking for a little more space and a few more amenities, the Concierge Class cabins offer 191 square feet of living space with 42-square-foot balconies.

Small (except for suites) but efficient bathrooms provide shampoo, conditioner, bar soap and body lotion. It can be challenging finding room to store everything, but there are drawers integrated in most of the pieces of built-in furniture including the secondary closet, which also houses the safe. There's another drawer above the flat screen TV, which also houses extra bedding. Inside, oceanview and balcony rooms feature two twin beds that convert into one queen, a small couch, a safe, small desk, a flat-screen TV and bathrobes.

The sound of waterfalls will transport you to a divine state of relaxation while you stretch out on thickly padded lounge chairs or melt away stress in the hot tub. Enjoy the serenade of the music from the bandstand and dance your heart away on the dance floor. For a refresher, take a dip in the pool or rejuvenate in the whirlpool.

Unlike the Mega-ships, the pool size is perfect for the ratio of passengers. What makes it even better is the fact that the Solarium pool is open to everyone, it helps distribute the passengers over more pool space and pool seating. There was never a problem finding a seat around the pool, even during a full sailing. While we may have just been lucky, we didn’t witness the chair hog behavior often found around cruise pools.

Additionally, there are saunas located in the gym changing / locker rooms. So facilities that you now have to pay to use on newer ships is actually accessible from public areas without having to pay an additional fee. The cost of the Persian Garden on the Constellation ranges from about $25 per day to $135 for a week-long pass depending on the itinerary. For that fee, you get access to a very limited experience compared to newer Celebrity ships. For passengers into more guided workout activities, there were plenty of classes available throughout the cruise, most with a nominal fee. For the most part, people traveling with families looking for exciting adventures, water slides, robotic bartenders, etc – this isn’t the right ship.

The Retreat includes stunning accommodations, a private restaurant, and exclusive lounge that rival any high-end resort. Your dedicated team of attendants, concierges, and butlers will do everything to ensure you never have to lift a finger on vacation. The 538 square-foot Royal Suites (with 195 square-foot balconies) add more space and feature whirlpool tubs on the verandahs. At the top of the list is a pair of 1,432-square-foot Penthouse Suites with massive, 1,098-square-foot balconies. These suites also feature a baby grand piano, should you wish for a private concert or to tinkle the ivories on your own. Decor features hotel-style white bedding with light brown accents, rust carpeting and deep red love seats for a splash of color.

Much more than I normally see on any ship or brand with the exception of Virgin Voyages. In short, yes, I think it’s a good ship for the right traveler and the right itinerary. If I had to choose the Apex vs Constellation for an identical itinerary, I probably wouldn’t choose the Constellation. But for a unique experience in an ‘old school’ way of cruising, it’s a good choice, especially if you’re a cruiser that prefers a more laid-back crowd with fewer kids. So for the right price, right itinerary, and right traveler – the Constellation can be an excellent choice. For the most part, the Constellation is relaxed and relatively casual.

Uncover the Dentist's Secrets: How Cavities Are Detected

A cavity is a hole in your tooth that is caused by decay. Decay is the process of tooth enamel breaking down due to acids produced by bacteria in your mouth. Cavities can cause pain, sensitivity, and other problems if they are not treated. That's why it's important to see your dentist regularly for checkups and cleanings to prevent cavities from developing.

There are a few different ways that your dentist can tell if you have a cavity. One way is by looking at your teeth with a special light. This light will help your dentist see any areas of your teeth that have been weakened by decay. Another way that your dentist can tell if you have a cavity is by feeling your teeth with a dental probe. A dental probe is a thin, sharp instrument that your dentist will use to gently prod your teeth and check for any soft spots. If your dentist finds a soft spot, it may be a sign that you have a cavity.
